St. James' School organized a book reading session for parents to emphasize the importance of reading in children's development. Teachers and students performed dramatized readings of two books - Chowringhee Charms and Playhouse Park Street.

The books were written by Sumita Banerjea, a former teacher at St. James'. Banerjea taught geography and was also responsible for the school library before she left.

During a session this month, Principal Terence Ireland addressed around 100 parents of students in classes V to VIII, emphasizing the importance of adults reading in order to instill the habit in children.

Parents often blame their children for being hooked on devices, but they are often doing the same. Children emulate their parents, leading to increased device dependence. This has had a negative impact on writing skills, as students struggle to express themselves through the written word. Teachers emphasize that reading is crucial to developing imagination and writing ability.

Teachers have reported spelling errors and the use of abbreviations in language papers. Banerjea suggests reading to children to improve communication skills and vocabulary. The school held a session for parents, with 100 attending out of 600 invited. The effort is important to show a focus on reading and to encourage the habit in children.
